Art lovers find remedy at Frankfurt's shoreline, where more than a dozen museums line up within walking distance. Just a stone’s throw away from Königstein, Germany’s wine capital, Mainz, charms with its beautiful old town showcasing a red cathedral and a unique love for books. Wiesbaden, which shares a river and six bridges with Mainz, lures in escapists with its famous thermal spas and stunning architecture.

All nature lovers and outdoor fans are invited by 5,200 kilometres of picturesque trails to long walks, wonderful hikes and adventurous bike tours through the natural landscape of the Taunus region. Picture perfect views included.

In addition to the metropolises and the impressive Taunus landscape, tranquil little towns or thermal spas, such as the Rhein-Main-Therme in Hofheim, attract visitors. Here you can relax in a class of its own. Just around the corner, you can meet giraffes, hippos and Co. at the huge Opel Zoo. And for history lovers, the Hessenpark open-air museum provides exciting insights into the past.

Hike wherever you like

Around the famous Feldberg lies the heart of the Taunus hiking paradise. Dense forests and enchanted valleys, lush green meadows and fields. In the middle of these postcard motives: you! With around 21,000 hectares, this is Hessen's largest contiguous forest area. Here you can find untouched nature and plenty of cultural monuments such as Königstein Castle along the way of your extensive hikes.

Our insider tips: the 3 Castles Trail or the 3 Summits Tour! The latter leads you over 13 kilometres to the Feldberg and neighbouring peaks, along the Weil spring and to breathtaking panoramic views of the Taunus. A must-do!

Taunus Burg Koenigstein

An aristocratic tour

3 Castles Trail

From Königstein Castle via Falkenstein Castle to Kronberg

10.7 km / approx. 3 hours

An adventurous circular hike of moderate difficulty that leads to the castles of Königstein, Falkenstein and Kronberg. Along the way, urban backdrops alternate with wild nature, beautiful viewpoints and exciting historical settings. The tour starts at the imposing castle ruins in Königstein. All three castles are open to visitors at certain times. To round off the hike consider a visit of the Opel Zoo.

Feldberg Taunus

Challenging Outlooks

3 Summits Tour

Large Feldberg, small Feldberg & Altkönig

13.4 km / approx. 4 hours

One of the best tours for those who want to aim high. This rather challenging hike connects the three highest mountains in the Taunus region: the small and large Feldberg and the Altkönig. For the best views of the Hochtaunus and the Wetterau, we recommend the Brunhildisfelsen on the way. If you also want to catch a glimpse of the Rhine-Main plain, climb the 40m-high observation tower on the large Feldberg and be rewarded with a 360-degree view.

Come by bike

Don't feel like wearing hiking boots but still wish to feel the wind tickle your nose? Simply explore the area on two wheels - even motorized. Whether you're a brave mountain biker or prefer relaxing cruises, there's a route for everyone. The perfectly picturesque trails of the Taunus region feel like a real-life paradise for cyclists. On Feldberg, exciting MTB trails, flowing descents and steep downhill trails entice you with action, riding fun and lots of adventure. The extensive network of cycle paths and long-distance cycle routes are ideal for e-bike or pedelec tours in the Taunus.

Particularly popular: the Weiltalweg - always along the small river Weil through wild nature, deep forests and tranquil villages to Weilburg.
